Enjoy a day in Dayton.
Here you’ll find shopping, fine dining, history, and adventures in the
nearby Blue Mountains.
Dayton has the oldest working courthouse and
the oldest Train Depot in the State, both fully
restored. You can also take a walking tour of 117
homes and buildings on the National Register
of Historic Places, one of which is McCann
Manor!
Or grab one of the Manor's two vintage
bicycles and wheel your way around town in
style. Or just relax and be entertained is
Dayton's restored historic Liberty Theater.
The beautiful Blue Mountains are less than a mile behind the
Manor. Your Innkeepers will be happy to point you in the right
direction with maps and information.
Explore the Lewis & Clark Trail, which made its way right down
Dayton’s current Main Street where Native American tribes held
their annual horse racing festivals before outsiders settled in
the area. See a historically accurate, life-sized replica of the
Lewis & Clark Campsite just a couple of miles from the end of
town.
Your Innkeepers can guide you to some of the best bicycle trails around
Dayton. Serious cyclists should check out the Adventure Cycling Association's
website for detailed maps of bicycle routes along the Lewis & Clark Trail [see
their "section map 7"].
For a real treat, at the west end of Dayton you can visit a real goat farm,
the Montiellet Fromagerie, where Pierre-Louis and Joan Monteillet
produce and sell handcrafted artisanal goat's milk cheeses. The
Fromagerie is open for tours on Saturdays and Sundays. Visit the
Fromagerie website for more information.
For an overview of the fun Shops on Dayton's Main Street, this is the website to see.
Dayton's Events and Festivals pages have more good information about upcoming
celebrations in this picturesque little town.

Walla Walla
There's enough to see and do in downtown Walla Walla that you'll probably want to reserve most of a day to explore this
beautifully restored, award-winning historic town. Walla Walla is an easy, scenic drive from Dayton, taking you past
spectacular rolling wheat fields and through picturesque Waitsburg and Dixie. Find out more about things to see and do in
Walla Walla on our DOWNTOWN and ENTERTAINMENT pages.
•
Lowden
Take an easy scenic drive west of Walla Walla down Route 12. About 9 miles from Walla Walla
you’ll enter Lowden, a farming community established at the turn of the century.
Watch for historical markers along the way that recognize the French Canadian fur trappers who
were early settlers of this region and mark where historic events took place.
This website features several Wineries in Lowden that you may want to visit, too. Of course, the
Manor's VINEYARDS page also has come great links to information about the area's wineries.
Your Innkeeper can tell you about a beautiful lavender farm out that way, too!

Milton-Freewater
Ten miles south of the Washington-Oregon border is the community of Milton-Freewater. With an
orchard industry that dates back more than 100 years, Milton-Freewater has become the Apple Capital of

third weekend in August, you won’t want to miss the local Muddy Frog Water Festival.

Learn the history of the Umatilla, Cayuse and Walla Walla Tribes at the Tamastslikt Cultural Institute.
And adults can try their luck at the slot machines in the Wildhorse Casino. You’ll find links to good
websites for these activities on the McCann Manor HISTORICAL page.

Idaho
The Idaho border is just a couple of hours from the Manor, just past Clarkston, Washington.
Clarkston and nearby Lewiston, Idaho, were named to honor Lewis & Clark's Corps of Discovery
journey through the area on their way to the Pacific Ocean. Today, the area is known as the gateway
to Hells Canyon National Recreation Area. Hells Canyon is North America's deepest gorge. Take a
scenic drive to Heavens Gate Lookout with spectacular views of the Seven Devils, Hells Canyon and
four states - Oregon, Idaho, Washington and Montana. Learn more about the area at the
Lewis & Clark Valley website. On the Snake River in Hells Canyon, boat tours, whitewater
rafting and jet boating make for great day trip thrills. Find out more information
about nearby Idaho fun from this Hells Canyon Visitor website.
Be sure to ask the McCann Manor Innkeepers to point you in the
right direction for lots of fun things to see and do around Dayton.
If it’s really spectacular natural beauty you’re looking for, you’ll find that a short trek
north through Starbuck in Columbia County and across the Snake River will reward
your senses with the Palouse Falls that plunge 198 feet into the Palouse River
Canyon.
