Spend a day in the local mountains or by one of our nearby sparkling rivers or lakes.
The
Umatilla National Forest, and the Snake and Touchet Rivers provide numerous
outdoor activities and photo opportunities throughout the year. And it all begins within
a couple of blocks of the Manor. The abundant wildlife and spectacular natural scenery
around the Manor are a nature photographer's dream.
At the bottom of this page, is a list of great websites where you
can learn more about the following activities:
There are 5 State Parks, in addition to many rivers and lakes, that
are close enough to the Manor to provide day–trip activities in every
season.
Among many other activities, you'll find interpretive trails,
picnic areas and spectacular waterfalls
.
If you've never been birding, here’s the perfect place to start. The
Umatilla National Forest has documented
505 species of birds and
is home to 66 State Heritage Trees
. Visitors can explore interpretive
trails and bird watching trails well into fall and early winter.
Guests may borrow the Manor's binoculars and a variety of reference
materials regarding the local vegetation and bird species found in the area.
A simple morning jog can become an uplifting experience when it's taken
along the banks of the Touchet River just a couple of blocks from the Manor.
In the winter, Ski Bluewood is a 15 minute drive from Dayton. Our
Manor guests can enjoy
alpine and cross–county skiing.
And for the young at heart, there are also great places for
snowboarding and sledding.
For hunters, activities beginning in the fall and through
the winter season include
big game and bird hunting.
For the warmer months, tens of thousands of feet of freshwater
shoreline
and spectacular waterfalls are close by, with boat rental
facilities and unguarded beaches to enjoy boating or water skiing,  in
addition to
hunting, fishing, hiking and horseback riding in the stunning
Umatilla National Forest..

For a good resource for information regarding Winter Recreation other than alpine skiing in Washington State, look here.
Here you can learn about the nearby Lewis & Clark Trail State Park, located about 3 miles west of Dayton, with its 1,333
feet of freshwater shoreline on the Touchet River. The river also runs a couple of block from the Manor, where fishermen
catch trout, steelhead and other freshwater fish. Or just spend the day floating down the river.
